Shopping for a Strawberry Body Shape

When it comes to shopping for a strawberry body shape,  it’s good to focus on what’s happening below your hips.

The opposite to a pear, anyone with a strawberry body shape is wider on the top half of their body.  They’ll have wider shoulders than hips and you’ll probably think they are athletic-looking.

To create a more balanced silhouette plan to keep textures and layers light on top and add more width to the legs and feet.

1. Wide Legs

A pair of wide leg cropped jeans as seen here from Mint Velvet are just the ticket, stylish and kinda sassy.  Can you see how they draw your eye to the flared, wider part at the bottom?

I love the jumper worn with the jeans here, the half tuck ensures the jumper isn’t too boxy on the top half of the body.  I would also like to see these jeans with a black V neck top and black blazer for an easy smart/casual outfit.  You would wear this outfit time and again.

2. Detailed Skirt

While ‘shopping’ this weekend I spotted this fantastic skort in Zara.

It’s the detail that catches my eye, not the length.  The eye is drawn to the hips, which if worn by someone with a strawberry body shape takes attention away from the hips.

I also love that Zara has teamed it with a black roll neck, opaque tights and simple boots.  Take away the cross body bag, and add a lighter coloured shopper held by the hand.  The desire to bring a more balanced silhouette to the body shape is done.   To find the skort on the website click here.

3. Fit and Flare Dress

When it comes to dresses, as I was saying on Instagram Stories last Friday, try to choose designs that have more drama from the hip down.

For example, this version from Whistles works a treat.

This dress ticks a number boxes.  There is more width on the lower half, it has an open neck and 3/4 length sleeves.  What I also love is the ruching around the tummy.  If you carry a little weight around this area it is covered rather artfully by the gathering of the material.

I hope you liked these ideas.  If you wish to hear more about what to wear if you have a strawberry body shape I’ve saved my Q&A in the highlights section on Instagram.

Of course, if you want a more bespoke shop please do drop me a line at info@notgivinin.com and I’ll walk you through how I can help you wear better clothes that suit your figure and ultimately make you feel more confident.  See more about my services here.

Have a great Sunday.
