Something Fishy Is Going On
“Ere, how old-fashioned is this! It looks years old.”
Words of a shopper in M&S last weekend. She was about my age and guffawing with a friend over a check print fishtail skirt.
Recognising that I was clearly old enough to remember this style in one of its former incarnations, she looked my way for further encouragement. Alas, I was quite taken with it. I checked out the floor in more detail!
Of course it wouldn’t do if we all dressed the same and to be honest, I was quite surprised that I liked it too. However, I have always found this style rather flattering. I like the way it nips in at the waist, skims the hips and flares out at the bottom. It accentuates the shape god gave you if you are shapely and adds a curve, here and there, if you need it.
There are a number of takes on this style available on the high street and online this season. Check print is an obvious choice and it’s stylish with a bit of sass for corporate wear. Nice one M&S!
I also really like the wrap skirts that are plentiful and also give a similar silhouette. Have you seen some of the vinyl options? I have seen a gorgeous bright red one, just can’t remember where. If I see it, I’ll try it on and put it on my Instagram feed for you.
Meanwhile asymmetric cuts are super flattering, see this version from Marks & Spencer.
A pull-on waist with this bad boy and there’s sweater with balloon sleeves to match. Perfect for daytime parties.
Also, and I think I covered this last year, faux leather skirts are back again. Add knee high boots and chunky cashmere for daytime and a silk blouse and statement ear-rings for going on a hot date. Boom! Go get ’em tiger.
Here’s my selection from the choice available.
Meanwhile, after working through the summer, Mr P and I have a couple of trips booked for the next few weeks, so I’ll be taking a short break from my weekly post. You can keep up with me on Instagram and I’ll be back with a fresh new post on Friday, 13th October.
Have a great weekend.
