Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself
Okay, it’s a silly heading, but in all honesty, if you buy one blazer this season, make sure it’s checked.
One of the hardest working garments in any wardrobe, the blazer has been given the royal treatment this season. Yes, there are plenty of neutral toned styles around, but if you really want to be on trend, Prince of Wales check is the only way to go.
Style-wise, look for over-sized, masculine, boxy cuts with shoulder pads, including the one I’m wearing below, from New Look.
I’m sure I had one of these years ago! To be honest, I’m not 100% sure this colour suits me. I could see the colour drain from my face when I put it on, so I might need a darker fabric, but everything about this jacket reminds me of a time gone by.
Many of the checked blazers are double-breasted, Zara has a lovely one and apart from the roll of suggestions below, also check out (geddit?) H&M, Stratavarious and Spanish online retailer, Bershka. The latter has the cheapest I’ve seen at £25.99.
Also worth noting if you really like Prince of Wales, is that you will find it on trench coats, skirts, winter wool coats, tops, suits and trousers this Autumn. I’ve yet to see it on a pair of shoes, but it’s only time…
I teamed this blazer with classics – white top, jeans and black pumps – but adding colour would have looked better I think. Deep, rich colours or pale pastels should work.
Have a great weekend.
